This Saturday we go back Down Under, which we haven’t done for awhile. Please welcome Meghan from Foster’s Wine Group who will be showing off some of their portfolio of fine Australian wines.

`08 Thomas Hyland Riesling - The nose shows exotic tropical fruits with floral notes of Jasmine and honey suckle. Subtle savory spice makes an appearance due to the extended yeast lees contact. Quite a full flavored Riesling with varietal citrus fruit and lemon zest. The palate is layered and textural, balanced and full-flavored, with a long mineral structure giving lovely length on the finish. $9.99

`06 Thomas Hyland Chardonnay, The nose shows aromas of white stone fruit, a touch of lifted citrus fruit and a subtle complex oak/yeast derived character that draws you in. A fine, elegantly styled palate with refreshing citrus acidity. The mid palate offers generosity of flavor consisting of white nectarines and nougat/crème caramel. A wine that begs you to drink more! $12.99

`07 Koonunga Hill Cabernet - The nose shows obvious varietal character, with subtle leafy notes, cassis, rhubarb and minty nuances. Background aromas of earth gain a lift from cedary, balanced oak. A tightly structured palate of dark fruits - blackcurrants, cherries, black olive and a mouthwatering crisp acidity leaves the palate wanting more. Obvious, up-front Cabernet tannins fill the palate with balanced, well integrated cedary oak adding to the finish.$9.99

`06 BIN 128 Shiraz - The nose is youthful and fresh with a rush of stylish fruits - raspberry, Satsuma plum - to the fore. A cedary oak background is in balance with the cooler climate spices and earthy, meat complexities. The palate is defined, tight and focused. Integrated, stylish oak fuses effortlessly with a compote of expressive, red-berried fruits. Fine, persistent tannins comfortably convey a long and lingering finish, signing off and providing closure for this medium-weight Bin 128 package.

`07 BIN 389 Cab-Shiraz - Brooding, yet compliantly permitting noticeable oak to propel dark fruits from the glass, unveiling wafts of stewed Christmas pudding (a mix of date /sultana/fig) beneath. High notes of anise, licorice and an element of scented talc tussle with more grounded and complex savory & cold meat aromatics. Gasping for air! Youthful, bright dark fruits hover over a base of stewed rhubarb & quince paste. Integrated oak serves to tighten the palate rather than impart any flavor, although upon sitting, coffee-ground and barrel ferment nuances arise & linger... Ripe tannins and an impressive mid-palate convey. Tight, focused, compact. Needs time to unfold - tightly wrapped on release. $34.99
