This week we look at a fairly new Washington winery, Gilbert Cellars, from Yakima. Please welcome their distributor Chateau St. Martin and their rep Sonny Ramirez, who will be here to talk about the wines. This week we will show you the following;

`07 Riesling - this first try in small production from their estate vineyard west of Yakima has shown a wonderful floral aroma as well as mouth-watering flavors. $14.99

`07 Unoaked Chardonnay - this first release of their unoaked Chardonnay show strong varietal flavors while giving a very nicely balanced mouth feel because of the lack of oak. Very good with shellfish and cream sauced dishes. $17.99

`06 Claret - 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc - The follow up to their very successful 2004 Claret is another wonderful example of the success of Bordeaux varieties on the Wahluke Slope. A bouquet of herbs and smooth palette of dark fruits highlight this moderately tannic but very approachable and drinkable red blend. $18.99

`05 Cabernet Sauvignon - 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah - This juicy, decadent Cabernet Sauvignon offers an aroma of savory dried fruit and crushed herbs that leads into supple, sweet tannins accompanied by unbridled flavors of blackberry jam, fresh cedar, pipe tobacco, and black licorice. $25.99

`05 Syrah - 100% Syrah - This hedonistic Syrah delivers an aroma of wild violets and crème de cacao that lead into a plush medley of dark fruits and an enduring finish of French vanilla and roasted coffee. $25.99

Wine Trivia:

Although the “numbers” vary slightly by varietal, a ton of grapes will produce about 720 bottles (or 60 cases) of wine. With 12 bottles in a case and approximately five glasses per bottle, that’s more than 3,600 glasses of wine.
